Velayuthaswamy (Thindal Murugan) Temple - Thindalmalai

This hill temple is dedicated to Lord Muruga in the name of Velayuthaswami, located at the distance of 8 km from Erode town. The temple spread in an area of around 6 acres with an elevation of 50 m. People of Erode strongly believe that their town retains its prosperity because of this Murugan facing towards them. Legend is that, whenever the region suffered drought, people made a plea to Idumban to get them the grace of Muruga for rains. They were immediately heard and blessed to come out of the famine making the place fertile again. The tradition to keep their farms fertile is followed even today and so, Idumban finds special mention here. The lamp post of the temple is of a special design and typically found in the Kongu nadu region. Devotees light lamps on this pillar on the Karthikai Deepam days. The pillar has sculptures on all sides depicting religious events. The temple is visited relatively more in the evenings, because of its geography and greenery road they travel.
