Velankanni

Sacred Arockia Matha Church...

Velankanni is an unique Holy place for South Asian Christianity. The church is dedicated to our Lady of Good Health and is located about 350 km south of Chennai on the Coromandel Coast. This Roman Catholic shrine was raised to the status of basilica by His Holiness Pope John XXIII in 1962. This church was built in the late 16th century. The grand festival here is the feast of our Lady. The festival commences on 29th August to 8th September every year. Holy masses are conducted in at least eight languages like Tamil, English, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, Konkani, Hindi and Marathi.
