The Historical Fort...
Also known as Tharangambadi is located at the Coromandel Coast in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu boarding the former French comptoir of Karaikal. Tharangambadi has been a popular destination of Tourists, Ethnographers and Ideologists. Tharangambadi is a multi ethnic seaside habitation situated on the coromandel coast. It was once the major center of several successive western communities that set foot in the area with dissimilar interest including envoys of Danish, East India Company, German missionaries in service of the King of Denmark and Moravian Entrepreneurs. Before the arrival of the European, the area was the part of the Kingdom of Raghunatha Nayaka, the ruler of the Thanjavur. The Muslims arrived here in the 14th century to trade with the local people of this village. Danish colony was set up here in the year 1620. Many of the Institutions were started during the Danish Period. Still today some of the Danish people work with Archaeological survey of India in renovating the Danes burg fort and retain the old names for all the streets in Tharangambadi.
