Gingee Fort is also known as Chinji in Tamil, dates back to the 9th century. This fort is one of the few surviving forts and is close to the union territory of Pondicherry. Most of the structures, fortifications, walls and temples were built during 16th century by the Nayaka dynasty. Today the remains of the glorious past, tells us the numerous invasions, warfare and bravery that it witnessed. The fort was built at a height of 800 feet (240 m). The Kalyana Mahal was built in the style of Indo-Islamic Architecture. The Vishnu temple and a sacred pond are the main attractions here.
