Talakaveri (Talacauvery)

Talakaveri (Talacauvery), one of the most sacred rivers of South India and equally important for the living beings, this the origin point of the river Kaveri. At a height of 1300 metres in the Brahmagiri hills, it starts its journey from the small pond called โ€˜Kundikeโ€™. Though there are a lot of mythological stories related to its origin, the common fact is that the river was the effort of sage Agasthya. On his request to Lord Shiva for a river equivalent to river Ganga, Agasthya was blessed to have this Kaveri and he himself chose this place as the starting point. The river runs for around 750 km as a lifeline to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu states and merges with the Bay of Bengal. A small spring of water originates from this tank. There is a small temple for Goddess Kavery. The place also has shrines to Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesh. Pilgrims wish to take a dip here to clean away from the sins. The entire panorama is scenic and inspiring.
