Sri Ramana Maharshi Ashram - Tiruvannamalai

Located close to the foothills of the Arunachala hills, the Ramana Ashram is famous for having served as a home to the modern sage and Advaita Vedanta philosopher, Ramana Maharshi, from 1922, until his death in 1950. His preach speaks about the practice of self-enquiry, citing to remove ignorance and discover the true self. The ashram is beautiful in every sight. There is one big hall where people sit to meditate, contemplate or just to be there being silent. At the end of the hall there is a Shiva lingam in the middle and a statue of Ramana Maharshi behind. Next to the big hall there is another hall divided in two rooms. In the first room there is a statue of Ramana Maharshi along with some paintings and in the second room there is the shrine of the Mother. There are also two other rooms specially dedicated for meditation. The visitors can sit in any of the halls and practice meditation or contemplation or just walk around there performing the circumambulations until the chantings and pujas start. The ashram has the facility for everybody to meditate any techniques they have learned before. It is advisable to go to the meditation rooms at 6 AM and at 6 PM to calm our soul. There is a daily program starting at 6.45 AM to continue till 7.15 PM, which creates a very special atmosphere. The program includes milk offerings to Maharishi and twice a day chanting of the vedas and a puja in front of the shrine followed by a puja at the shrine of the Mother.
