Krishna Raja Sagar Dam - Shortly KRS Dam
Shortly called as KRS dam, the majestic KrishnaRajaSagar Dam, located in Mandya district, was built at the confluence of three rivers Kaveri, Hemavathi & Lakshmana Thirtha. The construction work of the garden was started in 1927 and completed in 1932. It was built under the guidance of an eminent engineer Sri Visveswaraya and named after the then ruler of Mysore kingdom Krishnaraja Wodeyar. KRS dam is the major source of irrigation and drinking water for Mandya, Mysore and Bangalore districts. It has an impressive height of 130 feet and 152 sluice gates. Spread across 60 acres, the beautifully landscaped Brindavan Gardens is located overlooking the KRS dam. It was constructed in 1932 by the Diwan of Mysore, Sir Mirza Ismail. The garden is laid out in three terraces and ends in a horse-shoe shape. The North and South points are connected by Kaveri river and have a boating facility. The beauty can also be enjoyed through a walkway bridge. Another biggest draw is the musical fountain of water bursts synchronised with tunes of songs. They are displayed in their full glory at night.
