Kovalam Beach - Beach Destination in South India
In regard of visual awesomeness and tourist inflow, Kovalam beach occupies the top position thinking of beach destinations in South India. โGrove of coconut trees' translates the word Kovalam and the whole area around the shore is literally filled with endless sight of coconut trees. At around 13 km away from Trivandrum, Kovalam gained importance when Maharani Sethu Lakshmi Bai, the Queen of Travancore built a palace on the top rock here in the 1930s. It was popular among the people of Travancore instantly. It was through the hippies to choose this beach for partying in the 1970s. Then on, Kovalam became familiar with the international tourists, changing it into an inevitable spot in Kerala.
Literally there are three beaches in Kovalam with the most popular one being the LightHouse beach. It got its name due to the old Vizhinjam lighthouse located on top of the Kurumkal hillock. Samudra beach is on the northern side to hangout despite less commercial activity. The middle one is called Eve's beach which was famous with European tourists. Kovalam is the best place for relaxing and spending time leisurely. Activities like sunbathing, swimming, catamaran cruising, kayaking, surfing, fishing, cultural programs etc are engaged by the tourists. It is also the place for its ayurvedic massages and many yoga resorts. The naturally gifted ambience of this beach not only adds spirit and lustre, but also makes the journey of life fascinating and memorable.
